Description

The lecture gives an overview of general aspects and concepts of personalization and their significance and possibilities for service providers and customers. Subsequently, various categories of recommendation systems will be presented, both from the area of explicit recommendation services such as reviews and in the area of implicit services, which calculate recommendations based on collected data about products and/or customers. The lecture also provides a detailed insight into the current research in the field of recommender systems in the department.

teaching content

The lecture gives an overview of general aspects and concepts of the recommendation services and their significance and possibilities for service providers as well as for customers. The lecture also provides a detailed insight into the current research in the field of recommender systems in the department.

The lecture will be offered from the summer semester 2014 onwards in alternation with the lecture "2540533 - Personalization and Services". The current schedule can be viewed on the Chair's website (http://www.em.uni-karlsruhe.de/studies/).

Total expenditure with 4,5 achievement points: approx. 135 hours

 

target

The student (s)

  • masters concrete methods for the calculation of implicit and explicit recommendations from the fields of statistics, data mining and game theory.
  • evaluates recommender systems and compares them with other systems in this very research-oriented area.

 

scrutiny

The performance review is carried out in the form of a written examination (approval) in the amount of 1h according to §4, para. 2,1 SPO and by elaboration of exercises as a performance review of a different kind according to §4, para. 2,3 SPO.

The course has been passed if 50 of the 100 points were achieved in the exam. If the exam is passed, the points of the exercise performance (maximum 10) are added to the points of the exam.
